A pretty, educated Jewish girl came from Vilnus to help Mr. Kretowicz, who was Mrs Stefania's uncle's administrator, at work. Stefania Dąmbrowska and Helena became friends and although the women lived in Orwidów Górny she spent most of the time on Stefania's farm.
Helna Snarska's story and her daring escape from a train sent to Treblinka amazed Mrs. Stefania and us.
"She was a doctor, her father was a doctor and her husband as well. He came from Kielce region. They met in Warsaw during their studies and when Germans came, they left together for Vilnus where Helena's parents were living. The Germans took away Helena's husband- Stanisław and her father to Estonia where they worked in a mine of slates. Helena stayed at home with her mother who had a cancer. Her condition was hopeless. The Germans started taking away Jews from vilnius ghetto. They arrvied at Snarski's house. Helena put her mother to sleep and was sent to Treblinka. On her way she forced the wooden boards in the tarin's floor. She jumped on the railway line and wolked back to Vilnus where father Kretowicz gave her the stocks."
